The door and window work is an important aspect of nearly every building and serves more functions in a building. It consists of frames and shutters of aluminum, wood, steel, metal, glass, etc. fixed with necessary fixtures. Here, fixing of different types of door and window work are described.

  • Fixing Aluminum Doors

The aluminum door is to be fabricated in position with all necessary fixtures such as hinges, handles, barrel bolts chromium-plated brass Yale lock, etc. A handrop bolt is to be provided for locking the shutters. The door is to be fixed in a frame of single or double wings shutters of approved colour with anodized or powder-coated aluminum sections. A clear float glass of a minimum of 6mm thickness having a clear vision is to be fixed. The gaps formed between the frame and plaster should be grouted with epoxy-based compound or sealant of approved make as specified by Engineer-in-Charge.

  • Fixing Aluminum Windows

Aluminum windows and ventilators are to be fabricated in position with all necessary fittings such as hinges, handles, tower bolts (concealed), etc. The aluminum sections provided for windows and ventilator should be of approved make and colour with an anodizing thickness of 15 microns. 2 number of 6mm thick plain glass with a gap of 12 mm is to be fixed by filing organ gas after vacuum. The gaps formed between the walls and windows should be sealed with aluminum beading and sealant and the gap between frame & plaster should be filled with a sealant of approved make. The outer glass of the double glazed unit shall be 6 mm thick low thermal insulation glass with equivalent colour and the inner glass shall be 6 mm thick low thermal insulation clear glass.

  • Fixing Glazing Window

A heavy-duty aluminum-framed Double glazed system window is to be installed. The activities such as lifting and scaffolding should be carried out for all heights. The aluminum frame should be painted with polypropylene-based powder coating. The glass should be of maximum thermal conductivity and visible light transmittance. The inner glass should be of clear glass and the outer glass should be of grey, blue, or green coating on the inner surface which will be finalized by the Client or Consultant.

  • Fixing Fire metal Doors

Metal fire door of approved make is to be fabricated in position with 6 numbers of G.I anchor bolts. The door is fixed with cement mortar at junctions in the ratio of 1 part of cement and 4 parts of sand. The frame should be made from a galvanized sheet of 1.60 mm thickness. The metal fire doors should be painted with 2 coats of zinc phosphate primer and 2 coats of applied polyurethane paint. The door should have a smoke-proof seal all around the door and all joints of frames should have provision for anchor bolt fixing to wall or RCC surface, reinforcement pad for fixing of door closures.

  • Fixing Flush Door Shutter

A solid core flush door shutter of 40 mm thickness with both side laminations using a 1.5 mm thick laminate sheet is to be fixed. The flush door shutter is to be fabricated using 6 numbers of the holdfast, SS hinges, SS beading over teak wood lipping, coach screw, tower bolts, etc. Necessary holes should be provided in the masonry or concrete and grouting of holdfasts should be done in cement concrete. Stainless steel foot door stoppers, mortice lock with the handle of approved quality should be provided on the front side of shutter, and plastic buffer or dash block should be provided on the rear side of the shutter.

  • Fixing Cubical System for Toilets

The cubical system made of 12mm thick solid compact laminates with chamfered edges is to be fixed for toilets of approved make. The intermediate panel should be anchored to the wall with powder-coated aluminum U channel and should be homogeneously reinforced with cellulose fibre. The top surface should be melamine coated on both sides which is scratch and impact resistant. The top rail made of extruded aluminum shall be powder coated in a natural finish. The intermediate panel shall be. The pilasters should be supported by adjustable foot and non-corrosive steel inserts. The Base of the adjustable foot should be anchored to the floor with a clearance height as per the tender drawing.

  • Fixing Panel Partition

A partly glazed & partly paneled partition is to be fixed with necessary fittings. The partition should be provided with an outer frame and intermediate frames of approved colour with anodized or powder-coated aluminum sections. A toughened glass of 6 mm thickness should be provided in the middle panel. A Pre-laminated board with 9 mm thickness should be provided on the top and bottom panel. The joints should be sealed with aluminum beading and silicon sealant of approved quality.

  • Fixing Aluminum Composite Panels

Aluminum Composite Panels are to be fixed with necessary accessories using GI brackets, S.S bolts, nuts, spring washers, and cap nuts. The frame should be anodized and extruded aluminum sections of approved make, size, and weight. The composite panel should consist of a 3 mm thermoplastic core of LDPE sandwiched between 2 skins of 0.5mm thick aluminum sheet. The surface should be furnished with PVDF coating of at least 30 microns and service coating on the reverse side The composite panels should be sealed with weather sealant of approved make.
